To limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, we must cut global emissions in half by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2050. The UN Secretary-General emphasized this situation's urgency early in 2023.

The private sector is vital in achieving the 1.5°C target and a net-zero future by 2050. The UN Global Compact Climate and Environment portfolio offers companies various opportunities to engage in climate action, from water stewardship to biodiversity and adaptation. The goal is to help companies take concrete steps aligned with the Paris Agreement and the SDGs. One key initiative within this portfolio is the Climate Ambition Accelerator, led by the UN Global Compact and implemented by Global Compact Local Networks worldwide. It aims to scale up credible climate action in companies of all sizes and sectors. Over 2,000 companies from 60 countries have participated, with nearly 50 Global Compact Networks involved in 2023. The UN Global Compact Network USA is running the Accelerator for the second consecutive year, with over 60 US companies participating.
