POSITION: Communications & Operations Intern

ORGANIZATION: UN Global Compact Network USA  

LOCATION: New York, NY (Hybrid)  

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-Time  

SALARY RANGE: The part-time temporary position (10 - 15 hours per week) will run for 6 months for a weekly stipend of $20/ hour. The position will start in March 2025 at a date agreed upon by Network USA and the selected candidate.

The Communications/Operations Intern will play a key role in supporting the UN Global Compact Network USA's Communications and Operations teams. The intern will assist in managing and executing key initiatives to ensure the smooth functioning of the organization’s day-to-day operations, while also assisting in the creation of content and materials for external communications. The intern will gain hands-on experience in both operational tasks and content creation, contributing to the organization’s mission to advance corporate sustainability and the SDGs. This is an excellent opportunity to develop valuable skills in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

As the Communications/Operations Intern at Network USA, you will collaborate closely with the Operations Coordinator and Brand & Marketing Coordinator to provide valuable assistance in various tasks crucial to the organization’s success. These tasks include, but are not limited to:

Operational Responsibilities

  • Taking Meeting Notes: Documenting key discussion points, action items, and follow-up tasks during meetings with internal teams.
  • Organizing digital filing system: Ensuring that files are systematically organized and easily accessible on Dropbox.
  • Coordinating Internal Meetings: Scheduling and assisting with internal meetings, sending invitations, and following up on action items.
  • Assisting with Internal Process Improvement: Researching new tools or processes that can enhance operational efficiency, supporting the continuous improvement of internal workflows.
  • Providing Operational Support for New Initiatives: Assisting with the implementation of new initiatives, ensuring smooth execution and supporting operational logistics.
  • Helping Develop Materials for New Processes: Contributing to the creation of clear and effective materials for new processes and initiatives.

Communication Responsibilities

  • Assisting with Social Media Content Development: Helping create and schedule social media posts, including graphics and captions, to enhance the organization’s online presence and engagement.
  • Manage Content Tracker: Update content tracker weekly to ensure social media posts and other communications include and emphasize the business case to our audience.
  • Create Monthly Social Media Metric Reports: Compile and analyze social media performance data each month, generating reports with key metrics, insights, and recommendations.
  • Updating the Website: Regularly updating the website with current news, events, and general maintenance to ensure accurate, timely content.
  • Optimizing YouTube Channel: Organizing and updating content on the YouTube channel to enhance the user experience and ensure content is easily accessible.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS:

  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with experience in drafting emails, reports, and social media content for diverse audiences.
  • Content Creation & Digital Engagement: Proven ability to create and manage content for social media platforms (Instagram, X, Youtube LinkedIn), as well as digital materials such as blogs, newsletters, and promotional campaigns.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and priorities are effectively managed.
  • Social Media and Digital Analytics: Analytical skills to track social media performance, assess trends, and optimize strategies for increased engagement and brand awareness.
  • Design Proficiency: Competence in using design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) to create engaging, visually appealing content.
  • Operational Support Experience: Ability to assist with day-to-day operational tasks, ensuring smooth internal workflows.
  • Attention to Detail: Managing internal documents, tracking data, and ensuring the accuracy of all operational and communications materials.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively within a team, supporting both communications and operations teams, while being proactive in contributing to project success.
  • Self-Motivation & Initiative: A self-starter who can work independently, manage tasks with minimal supervision, and proactively suggest improvements in both operational processes and communications strategies.

The Network USA office is headquartered in New York City. This position is open to remote candidates within the United States who are able to travel to New York City if needed. Reasonable travel expenses associated with these trips will be reimbursed.
